1.  Cruciferous Vegetables

Besides being super healthy in many other areas of your life, cruciferous veggies are like sending brooms to your colon to do some spring cleaning. In order to have a beautiful physique and a super healthy body, we need a healthy digestive system that keeps things moving. One of the best ways to do this is to eat more fiber. Cruciferous veggies are one of the top sources of fiber. In fact, for every 100 calories, you can get as much as 40 percent of your daily fiber requirement!

Another great thing about cruciferous veggies is that they detox the colon every time you eat them, even when you aren’t doing an official cleansing program. More than 600 studies show that eating cruciferous veggies are some of the most powerful cancer fighting foods anywhere on the planet. Cruciferous vegetables contain extremely high levels of antioxidants that will keep you young inside and out!

2. Garlic

Is there anything that garlic can’t do?! This spice can not only help your heart and circulation, but its antibacterial, ant-parasitic, and antiviral compounds help to remove toxins, parasites, and pathogens from the colon. Garlic is also a powerful antioxidant that helps to reduce inflammation. This will improve the absorption of food nutrients, improved digestion, and the elimination of waste and toxins.

3. Pure Water and Sea Salt

When your colon is hydrated, it’s healthier. Being perpetually dehydrated can lead to constipation, which will lead to a buildup of toxins in the colon. This is why you need to be sure that you are drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces of water every single day is so important. Adding just a pinch of sea salt to your water will also go a long way towards detoxification. Find out more why water is so important.

4. Avocados

One great tasting food that will help with both digestion and detoxification is avocado. Rich in both soluble and insoluble fibers, these compounds will encourage healthy bowel movements and cleansing the colon. Fiber effectively reduces your overall risk of developing cancer of the colon. The soluble fiber content absorbs water and binds with other substances in the colon to help keep things moving along.

5.  Dark Leafy Greens

To help cleanse the colon and protect your digestive tract, you need to consume plenty of green leafy vegetables, such as kale and spinach. Fat soluble chlorophyll will stick to the lining of the colon wall and arrests the growth of bacteria, removes bacteria that has accumulated and multiplied in the colon, as well as healing the mucus lining of the gastrointestinal tract. Other leafy greens you can consume are cabbage, green olives, collard greens, celery, peas, and Swiss chard. All of these leafy greens are super high in chlorophyll, which will cleanse the colon and help to detoxify your liver at the same time.

6. Fermented Foods

Your digestive system is made up of a vast network of beneficial bacteria that performs many tasks including the digestion of food, the balancing of bacteria, the absorption of nutrients, and the removal of waste and toxins, to name a few. When the bacterial balance of your digestive system is thrown out of whack, the health of the entire body can suffer. More than 80 percent of your immune system lies in your gut, so when your gut flora is not balanced, your immune system does not work properly.

To help offset this imbalance, be certain that you eat plenty of fermented foods, such as Greek yogurt, kombucha, pickles, sauerkraut, tempeh, and kimchi. These are all super rich probiotic foods that will help to keep your entire digestive system, including your colon, in a healthy balance.

10. Apples and Apple Cider Vinegar

Apples are a super powerful cleansing food for the body. This is why most of the cleansing programs and colon cleansing powders contain things like apple pectin, whole apples, apple juice, apple cider, apple cider vinegar, or apple sauce. This fruit is high in fiber, so it promotes a healthy digestion. The pectin in apple skins are a type of carbohydrate that act as a thickening agent inside the stomach. In therapeutic doses, pectin sweeps out those toxic build-ups inside the colon while strengthening the lining of the intestine. Pectin can also be found in bananas and the rinds of most other citrus fruits. Pectin is great at removing all sorts of toxins from the body, as well as heavy metals.

11. Green Tea

Want to lose weight, detox, and cleanse the colon at the same time? Drink green tea! Packed with antioxidants, it improves the function of the bowel and cleans the colon. Green tea is also high in vitamin C, which supports the immune system so that the body can do a better job of naturally detoxing itself. You might even drop a few pounds simply by drinking three cups of green tea each day because this will increase your metabolism, keeping your body primed and ready to burn fat, rather than store it.

12. Lemons

Lemons stimulate the liver to produce bile, which helps the digestive system function better overall. By producing more bile, the stomach works better, moving things along and cleaning the large intestine. Just drinking a glass of warm water and the juice of half an organic lemon every morning will go a long way towards detoxing the body and helping the colon to cleanse itself.
