If you have decided to part ways with all your chemical filled beauty products, good for you! Everything that we put on our skin is absorbed directly into the blood stream, so the last thing you want to do is put toxic chemicals all over yourself. That kind of defeats the point of eating healthy and exercising, doesn’t it?

There is really no reason why everyone shouldn’t ditch those overpriced, toxic “beauty” products. We have plenty of natural items that will do the same job (and often a better job) for a fraction of the cost and with no side effects.

One of the best things you can use is extra virgin olive oil. Perhaps you think olive oil is only something for the kitchen. You might be surprised to know that olive oil is not only packed with nutrients, which does make it perfect for cooking, but this also makes it perfect for your beauty routine. You might have even seen some products boast that they use olive oil as a base.

Olive oil has tons of vitamin E, which prevents the premature aging of the skin (this means fewer wrinkles!), vitamin K, which can stop acne, linoleic, palmitic, and oleic acid. Even though the word acid sounds harsh, these are actually fatty acids, which are terrific for dry skin. Olive oil is also full of antimicrobial and antioxidant compounds such as oleuropein and tyrosol, which stops your skin from getting infections and acne.

There are so many good things about olive oil that we have just scratched the surface. Want to know more? Keep reading and find out the top beauty tricks that you can use to improve your skin, hair, nails, and more, simply by using extra virgin olive oil.

1. Prevent Hang Nails

Everyone gets a hang nail every now and then, it seems that there is no way around these annoying but painful little bits of hard skin right next to the nail. Do you know what hand models like Ashly Covington use to stop hang nails and keep their cuticles soft? Olive oil! Several times each day, just add one drop to your nails and massage the oil around the sides of your nails to keep the skin soft and prevent it from forming hang nails. You can also soak your nails in a bit olive oil for about 10 minutes before bedtime, then put on cotton gloves and wear them overnight for super soft hands that have no painful, unsightly hang nails.

2.  Super Soft Skin

If you suffer from dry skin, you must try olive oil! This oil is thick, but not greasy, so it will moisturize, soothe, and nourish your skin. Regular use of olive oil can help to rejuvenate and heal dry skin as well. Olive oil is loaded with antioxidant compounds so it prevents wrinkles. If you have oily skin (or even normal skin) you will be better off using coconut oil. Olive oil is quite thick.  However, if you are constantly applying lotion to your body or face because it is so dry, try olive oil instead. Put a few drops on your hands and then massage into the body. Add just a few drops at a time until you have covered your entire body. Most women do this before bedtime, then shower as they normally would the following morning, but you can also try it directly out of the shower as well. Repeat each day until your skin is no longer dry and flaky. Then you can use this method twice a week to keep your skin baby soft and supple.

3. Repair Cracked Heels

Dry, cracked heels are not only painful, but they are unsightly as well, especially during these warm summer months that simply cry out for sandals! You don’t need an expensive pedicure at the day spa; all you need is some olive oil. Soak your feet for 10 or 15 minutes in warm water and then exfoliate them with a pumice stone. Now apply olive oil to your feet, paying special attention to your heels. Put on a nice pair of cotton socks and leave them on overnight. In the morning, your cracked, dry heels will be a thing of the past!
