Are you concerned about GMO foods? If you aren’t, you should be. Do you think you are safe because you don’t eat any fresh produce that isn’t marked organic? Think again. GMO ingredients are in more foods that you can imagine. In fact, this problem is so prevalent, many experts believe that more than 60 percent of all foods sold in supermarkets either contain GM ingredients or is an outright GMO.

GM foods are unnatural monsters where scientists cross one species with a totally different species. Some of these fusions are so outrageous, they sound like a Twilight Zone movie: Goats with milk that produces spider-web like strings that are stronger than a bullet proof vest? Strawberries infused with fish genes?

One of the problems with most GM foods is that they aren’t labeled. Since they look like every other food on your supermarket shelf, it’s almost impossible to tell which are GM and which are not. Sometimes even labels lie! A recent investigation found that bags of corn chips marked “GMO FREE” actually contained GM corn.

Let’s not forget that GM foods affect more than just the human population. GMOs also have a devastating effect on our environment.

  • They Contaminate Crops: Pollen from GM crops are easily blown about by the wind, contaminating non-GM crops and wild plants. Some of this cross-pollination occurs via insects, which makes it almost impossible to control.
  • They Breed Super Weeds: In the same way that antibiotics and antibacterial soaps cause super germs to breed, GM products cause the growth of super weeds. As we use stronger and ever more potent herbicides, we cause herbicide-resistant weeds to breed and grow.
  • They Pollute Waterways: GM pesticides are infiltrating our water supply. Studies done in Spain found that more than 40 percent of tested groundwater was positive for RoundUp (glyphosate). RoundUp has been linked to numerous health problems. The full effects of contaminated water have yet to be seen.
  • They Are Slowly Eradicating Organic Farming: As cross fertilization becomes more and more frequent, along with the contamination of our water, organic farming becomes more and more difficult. Already, one in three organic farmers says they have a real problem with GM contamination in their crops.
  • They Are Killing Wildlife: The pesticides needed to deal with GM crops are killing bees, butterflies, dragonflies, wasps, and other pollinating insects that are vital to crops and wild plant life.

Glyphosate is now being found in just about everything, including water, human blood samples, urine, and even breast milk! This pesticide, which is used by the ton on GM crops, has been linked with serious health problems including:

– Infertility

– Insulin problems

– Accelerated again

– Immune system problems

– Digestive problems

– Problems with most major organs in the body

– Reproduction problems

Do you want to avoid the worst offenders when it comes to GM products? Keep in mind that you won’t EVER see the word “GMO” on any food label. However, you can look for the ‘USDA Certified Organic’ label or the ‘Non-GMO Project Verified’ label.

Take a look at the top 12 foods that are certain to contain GM products, unless they state otherwise. Avoiding these foods can save your life, friends!

1. Corn

This is perhaps the most common GM crop and the one people are most familiar with. Estimates state that more than 90 percent of all corn grown today is a GM product. Even if you aren’t consuming corn on the cob, this vegetable is a super common food additive. Corn is used in soup, desserts, sodas, bread, ketchup, salad dressings, and more. Any product that says it contains ‘corn syrup,’ ‘corn starch,’ or ‘corn syrup,’ has GM corn. This type of food is also fed to livestock — everything from chickens and turkeys to pigs and cows. If you believe that old saying, ‘You are what you eat’, then this should concern you greatly.

2. Canola Oil

There truly is no such thing as a canola plant. This is a rapeseed plant that has been genetically modified so that it doesn’t smell so bad. Canola oil is always being passed off as a ‘healthy alternative’ to butter, but this is one of the biggest lies of the century! Butter is completely natural, something canola oil can never claim. This oil is often used in margarines, shortenings, baked goods, and salad dressings. Never buy or cook with canola oil. Use more natural oils such as coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado oil.

3. Alfalfa

This used to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet since most species of alfalfa have roots that can grow 40 feet into the earth, sucking up trace minerals that many plants can never hope to reach. Although GM alfalfa is mostly used in animal feed, if you consume animal meat, you can be indirectly eating GM foods. The same goes with alfalfa supplements and green juices. Are you certain that your favorite juice shop is using organic alfalfa? Perhaps it’s time to ask!

4. Zucchini

Who doesn’t love the fresh taste of versatile zucchini? Both yellow and green summer squash, commonly called zucchini, have been modified to resist a variety of viruses and pests. There have been almost no studies regarding this crop, but you can be sure that it will harvest the same types of health problems that corn does since it has also been infused with glyphosate.

5. Potatoes

Even the common potato will no longer be safe. These have not yet hit the market, but the FDA has approved six different varieties that are less prone to bruising due to genetic modification. Expect to see these in the produce section of your supermarket, not to mention in the frozen food section, within a year or two.

6. Wine

It’s not the grapes that have been modified in this case, but the yeast that is used to make wine. These should be quite easy to identify, at least, as these wines will boast they are ‘hangover-free,’ or that they ‘limit hangovers.’ Although minimal or no hangover sounds great, the fact remains that this is not only a GM product, but that this will enable people to drink far more wine than is healthy.

7. Apples

GM apples won’t be hitting your supermarket until about 2017, but there are two different types of apples that were approved by the FDA. These have been modified so that they will not turn brown once they have been cut or bitten. These apples have received very little testing, but since when has that ever stopped the FDA? Soon after these apples are put on the market, you should be wary of everything that contains apple, including applesauce, apple pie, or apple flavored anything.

8. Soy

Like corn, it is almost impossible to find soy that is not a GM product. At least 95 percent of all soy beans are GM foods. The sad thing is that GM products have taken what used to be a healthy alternative to meat and made it into a Frankenfood. GM soybeans have less protein, fiber, and zinc, but far more omega-6 fatty acids and saturated fats. Avoid foods that list lecithin, emulsifiers, vegetable starch, hydrogenated oil, hydrogenated soy bean oil, or hydrolyzed plant protein in their list of ingredients. These are all GM soy beans.

9. Sugar Beets

This is another formerly healthy vegetable that has been ruined through GM technology. More than 95 percent of all sugar beets are GM products. To top it off, almost all sugar products are made from either corn or sugar beets. Never buy fresh sugar beets unless you are certain that they are organic, and never use any sugar product unless it states that it comes from 100 percent pure cane (sugar cane) sugar.

10. Dairy

At least 20 percent of all dairy cows in the U.S. are regularly given growth hormones to increase milk production — you should always buy organic dairy products. Dairy cows are also fed GM corn and GM soy, which can be passed into the milk. These growth hormones, known as rBGH (bovine growth hormone) have been banned in most other countries, including the entire European Union, but for some unknown reason, they are still used in America. Choose raw or organic, free range milk, meat, and dairy products.

11. Cotton Seed

This is typically found in many margarines, vegetable oils, and baked goods. There are no accurate estimates as to exactly how much of this crop is GM, but it does appear to be at least 50 percent. Cotton seed oil has been linked to inflammation, allergies, and immune system problems. Since there is no way of knowing if the cotton seed oil in your product is a GM product, avoid it to be on the safe side.

12. Papayas

This tropical fruit is incredibly healthy. There are numerous reasons to eat this fruit, but be careful which country you buy it from. All papayas that originate in Hawaii are GM products. In fact, Hawaiian papayas were the first Frankenfruit created. Look for papaya from other countries to ensure that you are getting Mother Nature’s finest product and not some scientifically created monster.

Of course, this list covers almost every GM product sold in American supermarkets, but it would be next to impossible to list every product that contains GM foods. Your best option for avoiding Frankenfoods is to cook from scratch yourself using fresh, organic ingredients.
