12 Natural Ways To Remove Plaque From Your Teeth, No Dental Visit Required!
2. Baking Soda and Salt
This age-old remedy is even recommended by dentists! By using a mixture of salt and baking soda in your daily oral hygiene routine, you can avoid those harsh, abrasive compounds that are sold over the counter. Mix ½ a teaspoon of salt and 1 tablespoon of baking soda in a bowl. Dip your wet toothbrush into this mixture and then brush your teeth as you normally would. Spit occasionally and then re-dip your toothbrush. Continue brushing for 3 minutes to remove all the plaque you possibly can.
3. Try Some Spicy Food
For removing tartar when you can’t brush, try ordering something spicy off the menu! Spicy foods stimulate the production of saliva, which helps to wash away the plaque and bacteria in the mouth. Drink lots of water when you are done eating to try to wash off as many food particles, and as much plaque, as you can.
4. Don’t Forget the Apple
That old saying should probably be “An apple a day keeps the dentist away.” Eating an apple after a meal removes plaque from teeth in a delicious and healthy way. Apples also help to keep your gums healthy. Apples have plenty of other benefits as well, but as far as your teeth are concerned, this is one tasty way to stop plaque dead in its tracks. Any variety of apple will do, so pick your favorite kind! Just be sure it is organic.
5. Figs
For strengthening the gums and cleaning the teeth, you can’t beat figs. Eating three figs at a time can clean the plaque off your teeth and stimulate the salivary glands at the same time. Your own saliva cleanses the teeth by removing food particles and plaque.
6. Orange Peels
This is an old home remedy that will not only remove plaque, but also help to whiten the teeth at the same time. Peel an orange and rub the inside part (the white portion, not the orange part) on the surface of your teeth. Do this for a minute or two, and then brush your teeth as you normally would. Orange peels are also loaded with vitamin C, which improves your oral and gum health.
