Grounding: Not Just Some New Age BS

Have you heard of grounding or “earthing” as it is sometimes called? This practice involves putting your bare feet directly on the ground.

The logic behind this action is that the earth carries an intensely negative charge. This charge is rich in electrons, which is thought to kill free radicals in the body and supply us with lots of healthy antioxidants. Persons who do this regularly report that they experience feelings of well-being, happiness, and improved health.

For some strange reason, very few people walk barefoot anywhere, unless they are on a beach vacation.

Have you ever noticed, however, that when you take a barefoot walk on the beach, you always feel so much better afterwards? Many people attribute this to earthing as well as the magnesium-rich water from the ocean.

If you think about it, our natural state does not include shoes! When you put your feet on the ground, you absorb large amounts of negative electrons, which helps your body maintain the exact same negatively charged potential as the earth.

The Journal of Environmental and Public Health published a study which postulates that practicing grounding could actually be a potential treatment or preventative measure to a wide variety of chronic diseases. This study concluded that earthing could be a profoundly effective method of preventing and treating problems such as inflammation, pain, hyper-coagulable blood, chronic stress, ANS dysfunction, and even heart disease.

Several research studies support this idea that grounding the human body can be an essential and natural way to help the body heal itself, along with other natural agents such as physical activity, whole, natural foods, clean water and air, along with plenty of natural sunlight.

Even the Department of Neurosurgery at the Military Clinical Hospital in Warsaw and the Poland Medical University found that blood urea concentrations tend to be lower in subjects who conducted earthing regularly, and that earthing during exercise, such as walking barefoot, resulted in improved exercise recovery time.

Another study, published last year from the Developmental and Cell Biology Department at the University of California Irvine, discovered that earthing caused improved blood flow to the facial area. This reduced blood viscosity is a major factor in the prevention of heart disease.

Earthing also reduces or prevents the main signs of inflammation after injury, such as heat, swelling, redness, and pain. This is according to a study published in the Journal of Inflammation Research.

There are literally dozens of studies confirming the benefits of grounding — so many that you simply cannot dismiss grounding as just some New Age BS.

Most people spend all their time wearing shoes, slippers, or some type of footwear. These all act as insulators, very much the same way plastic covering insulates the wiring in our homes. When we put on shoes when walking outside, we cut ourselves off from earth’s natural electron flow, which Mother Nature designed us live in harmony with.

Please note that if you wear leather-soled shoes, you will still be grounded since leather is natural skin. However, most shoes today have either plastic or rubber soles, which insulate you from the earth’s natural electrons. Next time you are outside, take off your shoes! Feel the grass, the dirt, and let Mother Nature’s natural power flow through your body. When you must wear shoes, be sure they have leather soles and spend at least a few minutes putting your leather-clad feet in the grass.
