21. Astragalus

Sometimes known as Huang Qui, this herb from China is well-known for stimulating the body’s production of interferon. It also improves the immune system’s ability to find and destroy rogue cells. Recent research has shown that this herb has great promise in the area of AIDS and cancer treatment. Cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy who consumed astragalus more than doubled their survival times in a research study performed at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas.

 

22. Garlic

Perhaps the best anti-cancer herb currently known to man. In one double blind, randomized study that involved more than 3,000 human participants, garlic was shown to cut the risk of developing cancer by more than 60 percent for those who consumed garlic each day over the 7 year study period. The active ingredient appears to be the enzyme allinase, which has incredible anti-cancer abilities.

 

23. Aloe Vera

If you thought this herb was only for skin problems and burns, think again! Aloe vera has been shown in research to have powerful immune modulating and anti-tumor compounds due to the polysaccharides in this common house plant. International Immunopharmacology showed in one study that polysaccharides from aloe vera has potent macrophage activating powers including producing greatly increased volumes of nitric oxide, which is thought to be an anti-tumor compound.

 

24. Sea Vegetables

Sea vegetables such as kelp, nori, and Kombu have some of the most incredible effects on cancer. It might be due to their high levels of iodine, which is hard to come by in foods grown by modern farming techniques. Studies show that women with breast and ovarian cancers have low levels of iodine in their blood. Sea vegetables are also super rich in potassium and calcium, which make the body more alkaline. Cancer cannot exist in an alkaline environment. Anyone interested in fighting cancer or in preventing cancer would be wise to add these vegetables from the sea to your diet regularly.

 

25. Cruciferous Vegetables

This would include vegetables such as cabbage, kale, broccoli, and cauliflower. All of these types of vegetables have been shown again and again to stop the growth of cancerous tumors in the lung, colon, liver, breast, and cervix. It’s thought that the powerful phytochemical all these vegetables contain, sulforaphane, stimulate the production of enzymes that detoxify carcinogens in the body.

It’s always easier to prevent cancer, or any disease, rather than treat it after it has developed. Eating more of the above foods and herbs is an easy way to naturally fight cancer at the source.
