How to Use Essential Oils for Pain Relief

Most essential oils are highly concentrated and are too powerful to use on the skin directly. Mixing these oils with some good quality base oils is the best way to use them. Never ingest essential oils!

For most pain, you can mix 10 drops of your choice of essential oil with two tablespoons of a good base oil such as coconut oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba oil or borage oil. Mix well, then gently massage on the affected areas. You don’t need to use ALL of the oil if it is not necessary. For example, for headaches, all you really need is a dab on each temple and perhaps another on the back of the neck to get relief from your pain. However, if you are massaging the entire back of a large man, for example, you might need to double this mixture in order to get proper coverage.

Keep in mind that what works for one person does not work for another. If you find that your chosen essential oil does not give you the relief you want, try another oil. One of these is bound to work with your body and give you the desired pain relief.
