Fun Fat-Burning Activities That Don’t Feel Like Exercise!
7. Stand-Up Paddle Boarding or Surfing
Surfing might not be the biggest calorie burner, but it must be one of the coolest forms of exercise! Surfing is a great full body workout that involves the arms, legs and core muscles. It takes time to learn, but it can become quite addictive once you master it.
If you don’t quite have the nerve to go surfing, try stand-up paddle boarding. It still has the cool factor, but it is much easier to learn and you don’t have to have nerves of steel! Unlike surfing, you can paddle board on lakes, and you can even learn in a swimming pool! Paddle boarding is a difficult workout that works the upper body and core muscles. It can burn about 250 calories in 30 minutes; surfing, however, only comes in at about 100 calories.
8. Swimming
Right up there with surfing, swimming will keep you cool and comfortable while you burn fat and calories. The number of calories you can burn will depend on the length and intensity of your workout and your weight. However, for many people, swimming freestyle, for example, can burn 100 calories every 10 minutes.
Swimming can reduce stress, build endurance and work every muscle in the body. Try to swim for at least 30 minutes five days a week for the best results. Don’t have a pool? Join a swim club, the YMCA, YWCA or visit a local lake. Of course, you can always make friends with your neighbor who does have a pool.
9. Jumping Rope
This is a fun activity most of us did as kids This exercise burns fat throughout the body and can burn as much as 11 calories every minute! Just jumping rope for five or 10 minutes a day can really help burn tons of fat. When skipping rope, jump with both feet and keep your back and knees straight. If it feels a bit strange after not doing it for many, many years, try jumping rope for just one minute at a time and keep the intensity low. Add one minute every time you exercise until you can jump for 10 to 20 minutes.
Jumping rope can be done almost anywhere, and your kids will certainly want to join you!
