The Dark Side Of Always Being Positive

There seem to be two types of people in this world – the kind that are positive no matter what happens, and those who are negative no matter what happens. The positive person can win a free order of French fries at McDonald’s and be delighted; the negative person will not want to even play the lottery because the jackpot is only at one million dollars. Once you have to pay taxes and maybe even have to share it with another winner, well, it’s hardly worth it, they say. This, even though they’re living paycheck-to-paycheck.

Anyone can be positive when things are going well. But when things take a turn for the worst, it is hard to get the right mindset for some people. While we talk about being positive or negative, we’re really talking about embracing a positive attitude. A negative person will expect bad things in the back of their mind. A positive person will be searching for the inspirational sayings, quotes, and books that they can use to get out of the slump. This is the dark side of always being positive.

It’s not exactly bad to be positive all the time, but trying to force yourself back into being positive is what will get you into trouble. You can become inspired and start feeling good and really feel like things are going to happen, but sometimes you are forcing it more than believing it in your heart.

There are so many self-help books on the market. Many are still effective today even though they were written in the 1900s. You would think that the principles that worked then would be outdated by now. However, getting to the point where the words still resonate goes beyond a book about being positive.

Many people who are positive all the time face dark times when they try to conjure up positive feelings and just can’t seem to do it. They are able to recite the right affirmations and know the right things to say, but deep down they are wondering why things really aren’t okay. When they do and say everything that they think is positive and the situation doesn’t change, they feel so disappointed by the books, and the sayings, and the affirmations.

The truth is not that everything is going to be positive all of the time. The best thing a positive person can do is to look at each situation and try to see what lesson they are supposed to be learning. The dark side of always being positive not realizing that if something is not positive, it doesn’t mean that it is bad.

The dark side of always being positive means that you don’t have to chant and say everything is going to be okay when maybe it’s not. When you do these things and the positivity doesn’t return, you allow yourself to feel like a failure.

There are many circumstances that occur, and you are unable to see at the time that they are leading to a positive outcome even though you can’t see it at the time. It’s not what happens to you in life it is how you handle it that really matters. That doesn’t mean putting on a fake smile and making like you are still a positive person. It means letting it go and accepting things and not forcing everything to be perfectly fine.

Some of the most valuable lessons stem from adversity. When you can come through a situation with class and grace, true joy will return before you know it, and you won’t have to look for the positive words to pull you through. They will flow from your heart, your positive outlook will be genuine, and you won’t have to face another dark side again.
