8. Basil

Most people are completely unaware that spices can have an effect on your pH level in the body, but they actually do. Not all spices are alkalizing, but basil is one that is. Since tomatoes are also alkalizing, this makes Italian food all that more interesting, doesn’t it? Basil is full of healthy flavonoids, and it is super alkalizing. Use it fresh or dried — it will still do the job.

9. Squash

Although there are numerous types of squash, one thing they all have in common is that they are alkalizing once we eat them. Squash makes terrific main courses or you can use them as a side dish. If you aren’t sure how to cook squash, there are tons of recipes online. All types of squash are super high in antioxidants and vitamin A, not to mention super alkalizing, so you are going to want to add more of them to your diet.

10. Broccoli

This is another veggie that seems to appear on every “healthy” list. This quintessential healthy veggie is one of those foods that have so much to offer us health wise, that you simply can’t ignore it. Some people believe that by eating broccoli every day, they will avoid most health problems that plague people. If you aren’t that big a fan, even adding broccoli to your diet three or four times a week should keep you in good health. Broccoli is another super alkaline food that you will want to add more of to your diet.

11. Spinach

Popeye would be proud to know that his beloved spinach was a super alkalizing food. Like broccoli, spinach is known for its health benefits, so it’s no surprise to find it on this list. Since most dairy products are acid-forming, it’s good to know that spinach is a great source of calcium.

12. Buckwheat

Although the name says “wheat” in it, buckwheat actually contains no wheat, so it has no gluten. It has a very similar texture, however, so it’s great for making your own alkalizing noodles! If you want to cut back on or cut out the gluten in your life, buckwheat is a terrific option. You can eat buckwheat without any worries about gluten sensitivity or about creating an acidic environment.

13. Sesame Seeds

Sesame seeds aren’t kings when it comes to their alkalizing powers, so you don’t want to eat a sesame seed topped hamburger bun, for example, because it won’t be enough to overpower the acid in the bun, but they are a great addition to things like salads, smoothies, and yogurt. They are a terrific source of protein, and they can add a little extra alkaline oomph to whatever you are eating.

The photo that you have used on the front of the top 35 alkaline foods is misleading and a typical advertising ploy as ripe bananas is not on the list yet you have chosen to put it in the visual display. That is unethical and wrong to do that.
