Summertime is finally here! With those warm summer temperatures come excessive sweating, dry skin, sunburn, frizzy hair, stinky pits, and much, much more.

Both skin and hair need extra TLC in the hot summer months. Rather than rely on petroleum based or chemical based products that cost a fortune, all you really need is one natural ingredient straight from Mother Nature.

Coconut oil!

This is one of the healthiest oils around, not only for cooking, but for summertime problems as well. Coconut oil has antimicrobial, antifungal, antibacterial compounds, not to mention antioxidants and a unique combination of fatty acids that offer super amazing health and beauty benefits!

Always buy extra virgin or virgin coconut oil for best results and for all the health benefits Mother Nature intended you to get.

Keep reading for the 10 most common summertime problems and how you can beat them, or prevent them, with just one jar of coconut oil.

1.  Heals Sunburn

Summertime means spending more time outside, it’s inevitable. Unfortunately, this can also mean getting sunburned. UV rays of the sun can make your skin age more quickly as well as increase wrinkles and age spots.

Using coconut oil before you head out in the sun can help to protect your skin as it has a natural SPF of about 4. It also helps to reduce inflammation and revitalize the skin. If you should get sunburned, the super moisturizing content in coconut oil can prevent skin peeling.

2.  Prevents and Stops Diaper Rash

OK, so diaper rash is a common problem no matter what time of year, but it seems to happen more often in the summer months, doesn’t it? You can prevent or stop most cases of diaper rash by cleaning baby’s skin well, then applying a generous amount of coconut oil.

3.  Stops Acne

Because we sweat more, acne and other blemishes are much more common in the summer months. Coconut oil cleanses your skin, while its antibacterial compounds fight acne to stop it before it starts. Wash your face as you normally would, then apply some coconut oil to your face and chest. If you get pimples on your back or shoulders, ask someone to rub some coconut oil there as well. It might sound strange that putting oil on your face can stop acne, but it’s true. If you don’t believe it, give it a try for just 1 week. You will be shocked by the difference.

4.  Stops Chapped Lips

Sunburned lips or dried out, chapped lips are not only unattractive but they can also be painful. Prevent chapped lips by putting a dab of coconut oil on them before you go out. If you want some longer lasting protection, mix equal parts of coconut oil and beeswax with one or two drops of the essential oil of your choice (warming these ingredients will help you to blend them more easily) and then put them in a small container to harden. (Old lip gloss containers work well) Use this two or three times a day to prevent your lips from drying out or to help them heal if they got a little too much sun.

5.  Stops Body Odor

Higher summertime temperatures mean more sweating and more body odor. It’s not really the sweat that smells bad; it’s when the sweat mixes with bacteria in a warm environment that it causes odor. Coconut oil works well as a natural deodorant. It contains both lauric acid and antibacterial compounds that stop most types of bacteria from growing and causing a stink. After you shower, rub a bit of virgin coconut oil into your skin, especially in places where you tend to sweat to help keep you smelling sweeter all day long. Read more how to control body odor.

6.  Stops Itchy Insect Bites

Spending more time outside means spending more time with the bugs that live outside. If you get bit, applying thin layer of coconut oil over the area will stop that annoying itch in a minute! Coconut oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and is soothing to the skin, which should give you some quick relief from that painful itching.

7.  Calms the Frizzies

Many people find that their hair is dry and frizzy in the summer months, which can make it very hard to manage. Extreme humidity, heat, and exposure to the sun, salt water, or chlorinated swimming pools only add to the problem.

Manage that frizzy hair with some coconut oil. Coconut oil can help to seal in your hairs natural moisture. Melt some coconut oil and apply it to your hair. Cover with a shower cap and wrap a hot towel from the dryer around your hair to encourage your hair to soak in that oil. Leave this on for 20 to 30 minutes, and then simply shampoo your hair as you normally would. Give your hair this hot oil treatment two or three times each week for best results.

8.  Stops Poison Ivy

If you have ever had a brush with poison ivy, then you know the terrible rash and painful itching it can give you. Along with that rash, many people also get little blisters that allow this rash to spread very easily.

You can stop the itching and encourage the rash to heal by applying a bit of coconut oil to the affected area two or three times each day. Anytime you feel this rash start to itch, put a dab of coconut oil on the area rather than scratch it.

9. Stops Dry and/or Itchy Skin

Just one day in the hot summertime temperatures can leave your skin feeling dry, scaly, and itchy.  Dehydration and the super dry air from air conditioners can make this problem worse.

You can seal in your skin’s natural moisture by using coconut oil. After your shower, apply a thin layer of coconut oil to help seal in the moisture from your shower. You can apply more coconut oil during the day or later in the evening if you spend a great deal of time outdoors or in air conditioned rooms.

10.  Soothes Prickly Heat or Heat Rash

Those hot, humid summer days can cause excessive sweating, which irritates the skin and can result in heat rash, which is sometimes called prickly heat. Prickly heat can cause stinging or prickly sensations along with intense itchiness and small red bumps on the skin.

Coconut oil stops itching as it penetrates the skin easily. It also stops inflammation and can prevent infection. Warm two tablespoons of coconut oil and apply this to the affected area two or three times each day to get relief from the pain and itch of heat rash.

Enjoy warmer summertime weather while it’s here and make coconut oil a regular part of your life so that the little things, like sunburn and bug bites, don’t put a damper on your fun.
