Turmeric as Effective as 14 Conventional Drugs

If you have been reading any health articles lately then you already know that turmeric has many amazing healing properties. Humans have been using turmeric for thousands of years as both a food as well as a medicine, even using it to cure some potentially fatal diseases.

Turmeric has been used traditionally throughout India for centuries. It’s what gives the spice curry its yellow-ish color. Using turmeric gets you tons of flavor while offering plenty of health benefits. The compound curcumin is what gives turmeric the majority of its healing properties, including antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.

Even more studies have shown that curcumin not only has very high anti-inflammatory properties, but that it has anti-cancer and antiviral properties as well (read more why turmeric has the anti-cancer effect). In a study published in the journal On Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology identified that it was turmeric’s anti-inflammatory compounds that, although not a proven cause of heart disease, stop the artherogenic response, which leads to the development of deposits of plaque in the arteries.

For those suffering from heart disease, or for those with risk factors for developing cardiovascular disease, curcumin can decrease the bad cholesterol ( LDL), decrease inflammation, and add powerful anti-coagulant properties. Curcumin has anti-platelet and prostacyclin effects that are almost identical to aspirin, the blood thinning choice of almost all doctors. In fact, these effects are so strong that those taking other blood thinning drugs, or aspirin, should avoid taking curcumin, and vice versa, to avoid severe bruising and bleeding.

Research projects have discovered that turmeric is capable of replacing a large number of conventional pharmaceutical medications that are meant to treat a variety of conditions, including inflammatory eye disease, type 2 diabetes, plaque build-up in the blood vessels and arteries, arthritis, even depression.

It’s long been a proven replacement for aspirin and/or ibuprofen. It’s a great at relieving pain and inflammation in a natural way that doesn’t have serious side effects to the body. Curcumin is a fat soluble, so it’s a good idea to take turmeric with a fatty meal. Find out unusual smoothies even wtih turmeric for your health.

Research studies have found that turmeric can replace or supplement the following 14 conventional medications:

  • Prozac/Fluoxetine and Imipramine – These are antidepressants. The journal Acta Poloniae Pharmaceutica published a study in 2011 that showed curcumin worked just as well as these drugs to treat depression and could possibly even be used to replace psychotropic drugs such as Prozac.
  • Lipitor/Atorvastatin – These are medicines used to treat high cholesterol. In the journal Drugs in R & D, a study was published in 2008 that found that the curcumoinoids in turmeric could be successfully used to treat a condition that affects the functionality of blood vessels called endothelial dysfunction. It’s also believed by researchers that curcumin can treat the inflammation and oxidative stress that is common in persons suffering from type 2 diabetes.
  • Corticosteroids – In the journal Phytotherapy Research published a study in 1999 that showed that curcumin can treat chronic anterior uveitis (which is an inflammatory eye disease) the same way that steroids do, but in a much safer fashion, with no side effects.
  • Oxaliplatin – This drug is used in chemotherapy. The International Journal of Cancer published as study in 2007 showing that curcumin can be successfully used to treat cancer of the colon and potentially replace oxaliplatin.
  • Aspirin – This is generally used as a blood thinner. In the journal Arzneimittelforschung, a study was published in 1986 that showed curcumin had the same anti-platelet effects as aspirin as well as the same prostacyclin modulating effects, and that aspirin might be able to treat persons prone to blood clots or those who require anti-arthritis therapy.
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs – The journal Oncogene published a study in 2004 showed that curcumin was a very effective alternative to other inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, aspirin, and other anti-inflammatory drugs as well as tumor cell fighting pharmaceuticals.
  • Metformin – This drug is used for diabetes. The journal Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications published a study in 2009 that showed curcumin might be valuable in the treatment of diabetes and increasing the uptake of glucose. Scientists also believe that it might also suppress glucose production in the liver for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma, which is one of the most common cancers in the world. Studies show that curcumin is as much as 500 times more powerful than metformin.
  • Statin drugs – These are used for cardiovascular issues. Although statin drugs are considered to be safe, they are quite expensive, sometimes costing as much as 500 dollars per month. Turmeric is quite inexpensive and has no side effects other than a possible upset stomach. Turmeric lowers blood pressure and reduces bad cholesterol, as well as removing plaque in the blood vessels of the body.

The article on turmeric is very informative and useful. The writer has not given information on how turmeric has to be consumed and its dosage per day.

After refusing surgery and radiation for prostate cancer (stage 4) I took turmeric and graviola, The symptoms I had more than a year were gone in three weeks. Then with lots of three time trials I also know to avoid all dairy products and no more than half as much sugar as most Americans eat. With any of those the herbs would fail.

Since I remain alive after last year, and barely notice the cancer anymore, this is the fourth time I survived when doctors did not expect me to. (Prior to this was 7 weeks coma from cracked skull.)

Yes, a fascinating article about turmeric. I take 4 caps a day, but may up it to 6 after reading how useful this herb is.

The main active compound in turmeric providing these benefits is CURCUMIN. Many “turmeric supplements” only contain tiny amounts of curcumin. They cost more, but it is important to take curcumin supplements. Also, curcumin is not well absorbed — they cost more, but there are several that contain a patented form called “BCM-95” — these are much more bioavailable, 7 times better absorption and lasts much longer in the body. Much much more effective than “turmeric” supplements. Diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer in August. Had one short course of conventional treatment (which I don’t want to repeat ever, toxic and can cause secondary cancers, heart damage, lots of bad news stuff) ), but think a big factor was taking lots of turmeric and lots of another amazing compound, QUERCETIN (found in small amounts in apples, onions, etc.) — you should research quercetin (available as a supplement), it has a multitude of incredible benefits — anyway, the tumor is GONE — from Stage 3 to gone!! Really, look up quercitin in addition to turmeric, and for cancer look up natural substances that have been studied for many years and are used in Europe, Japan, etc. (but US MD’s only know bogus Big Pharma) — maitake, reishi, shiitake and chaga mushrooms (and especially one compund from maitake called maitake d-fraction), also proteolytic enzymes, and other mushroom compounds called AHCC (active hexose correlated compund) and beta-glucans (these are all available in the US as supplements), as well as green tea extracts high in the polyphenol/catechin called EGCG — these are all used in many other countries, derived from natural sources, no toxicity, and have been researched and used (everywhere but Big Pharma-centric US) to treat cancer for decades with much success. Research this stuff, it will be time well spent!!!
