What Drinking Ginger Tea Can Do For You
10. Reduces cholesterol
Keeping your cholesterol levels within the proper ranges is important for preventing heart problems. The LDL, or bad cholesterol, plays a big part in the likelihood of having a heart attack. A study was conducted that consisted of 85 people over a period of 45 days. Each participant had high cholesterol and after taking three grams of ginger powder showed LDL levels were significantly lowered. Another study that used rats found that ginger extract worked as well as atorvastatin in reducing cholesterol levels.
11. Improves functions of the brain
The effect that ginger has had on brain functions has been impressive. Studies showed 60 women who were middle aged took ginger extract daily, and their memory and reaction time significantly improved. Ginger was also credited with protecting the brain against the decline that can come with age.
12. Antibacterial
Among the infections that ginger has been effective in treating are diseases of the gums – periodontics and gingivitis – and a respiratory disease called RSV virus.
13. Irritable bowel syndrome
Anywhere from 25 to 45 million people suffer from irritable bowel syndrome. This disease causes bloating, cramps, constipation, diarrhea, and gas. Any form of ginger has been shown to provide relief in calming down the digestive system.
14. Flatulence
Drinking a cup of ginger tea at night before bed can help to clear out your system and help relieve unexpected bouts of gas.
15. Heartburn
Just about half of all Americans have experienced heartburn in their lives. While it is not a serious illness, the medication that is used to treat it is worse for you than experiencing the heartburn. Next time you eat something that you know gives you heartburn or acid reflux, sip a cup of ginger tea 20 minutes before your meal.
