Do you want to avoid the worst offenders when it comes to GM products? Keep in mind that you won’t EVER see the word “GMO” on any food label. However, you can look for the ‘USDA Certified Organic’ label or the ‘Non-GMO Project Verified’ label.

Take a look at the top 12 foods that are certain to contain GM products, unless they state otherwise. Avoiding these foods can save your life, friends!

1. Corn

This is perhaps the most common GM crop and the one people are most familiar with. Estimates state that more than 90 percent of all corn grown today is a GM product. Even if you aren’t consuming corn on the cob, this vegetable is a super common food additive. Corn is used in soup, desserts, sodas, bread, ketchup, salad dressings, and more. Any product that says it contains ‘corn syrup,’ ‘corn starch,’ or ‘corn syrup,’ has GM corn. This type of food is also fed to livestock — everything from chickens and turkeys to pigs and cows. If you believe that old saying, ‘You are what you eat’, then this should concern you greatly.

2. Canola Oil

There truly is no such thing as a canola plant. This is a rapeseed plant that has been genetically modified so that it doesn’t smell so bad. Canola oil is always being passed off as a ‘healthy alternative’ to butter, but this is one of the biggest lies of the century! Butter is completely natural, something canola oil can never claim. This oil is often used in margarines, shortenings, baked goods, and salad dressings. Never buy or cook with canola oil. Use more natural oils such as coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado oil.

3. Alfalfa

This used to be one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet since most species of alfalfa have roots that can grow 40 feet into the earth, sucking up trace minerals that many plants can never hope to reach. Although GM alfalfa is mostly used in animal feed, if you consume animal meat, you can be indirectly eating GM foods. The same goes with alfalfa supplements and green juices. Are you certain that your favorite juice shop is using organic alfalfa? Perhaps it’s time to ask!

4. Zucchini

Who doesn’t love the fresh taste of versatile zucchini? Both yellow and green summer squash, commonly called zucchini, have been modified to resist a variety of viruses and pests. There have been almost no studies regarding this crop, but you can be sure that it will harvest the same types of health problems that corn does since it has also been infused with glyphosate.

5. Potatoes

Even the common potato will no longer be safe. These have not yet hit the market, but the FDA has approved six different varieties that are less prone to bruising due to genetic modification. Expect to see these in the produce section of your supermarket, not to mention in the frozen food section, within a year or two.

6. Wine

It’s not the grapes that have been modified in this case, but the yeast that is used to make wine. These should be quite easy to identify, at least, as these wines will boast they are ‘hangover-free,’ or that they ‘limit hangovers.’ Although minimal or no hangover sounds great, the fact remains that this is not only a GM product, but that this will enable people to drink far more wine than is healthy.
