8. Chlorella and Spirulina

Researchers out of South Korea recently published a study that found that the carotenoids from chlorella can effectively prevent cancer in human subjects. Perhaps this is because chlorophyll is known to neutralize toxins and environmental pollutants while carrying oxygen to all cells in the body. Cancer simply cannot grow in cells that are fully oxygenated.

Although spirulina cannot remove heavy metals from the body like chlorella can, it does have powerful immune stimulating compounds. This alga contains important amino acids that balance blood sugar levels and offer improved mental function. One study out of China found that spirulina, in combination with selenium, inhibited the growth of breast cancer cells in the human body.

Gotta love ‘shrooms! They have been used for at least the last 5,000 years as medicine. They have powerful anti-viral as well as anti-cancer effects. More than 50 species of mushrooms have been studied, and many of them have been found to stop human cancer cells. Shiitake, maitake, and coriolus versicolor have been all been found to be the most powerful anti-cancer mushrooms of all the species tested.
