Aloe Vera: The Wonder Plant
Most people know that aloe vera is good for burns and lots of us have at least one little plant either in our kitchen or out in the backyard, but aloe vera has so much more to offer! This little green plant can have an impressive effect on your health. Nature has provided us with so many natural healing herbs and plants. In today’s world of pharmaceuticals with their untold side effects, perhaps we should pay more attention to the things Mother Nature has put right in front of us.
Most drug manufacturers know about the healing properties of plants. More than 60 percent of the drugs made by those giant drug companies had their origins in plants. These companies made synthesized versions that are never as effective as the actual plant originally was, but they don’t care about that. They only care about how much profit they can make out of it.
Aloe vera is about 99 percent water, so all its healing properties are in that small 1 percent that isn’t water. That in itself is amazing. But take a look at the top 10 things that aloe vera has going for it.
1. Skin Soothing
Aloe vera is simply loaded with magnesium, which explains why it’s so soothing for those with itchy skin as well as healing for those who suffer from sunburn or a first degree burn in the kitchen. It can also relieve the pain and swelling from rashes such as diaper rash, poison ivy, hives, or ringworm, as well as psoriasis. A study done in 1996 showed that an application of aloe vera cream 3 times a day removed all symptoms of psoriasis in 86 percent of the individuals involved.
2. Allergy Relief
The magnesium aloe vera contains also inhibits the formation of histamine. If you suffer from allergies then you know a substance called histamine is what makes you have those itchy, watery eyes and runny nose. Read more about signs you might have a food allergy or sensitivity.
3. Aids in Digestion
If you take aloe vera orally, you should know that several of the enzymes that aloe vera contains, like lipase and amylase, help your digestion by breaking down the fats and sugars in the food you eat. In large amounts aloe vera has a laxative effect. In smaller amounts, the phytochemicals in aloe vera stimulate digestive juices, the flow of bile, and improve the overall digestive system.
4. Amino Acids
You may have learned in high school that amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Your body needs 22 amino acids in order to build the proteins it needs to survive. Of these 22 amino acids, eight are labeled as essential because our body cannot make them, we must obtain them from the foods we eat. Aloe vera has 20 of the 22 amino acids and 7 of the 8 essential amino acids. This is just one reason aloe vera is truly a wonder plant.

5. Lowers Cholesterol
Aloe vera contains sterols, which is a compound that can actually lower cholesterol. This has been known for more than 50 years! Sterols keep the small intestine from absorbing cholesterol in the small intestine by as much as 50 percent. There is a drug company that uses plant sterols and the omega-3 fatty acids from fish to lower cholesterol by 26 percent.
6. Anti-inflammatory and Antibacterial
Aloe vera contains salicylic acid, which is a compound similar to aspirin, which contains both antibacterial as well as anti-inflammatory properties. When aloe vera is used topically it helps wounds heal more quickly and without scars. The lignin in aloe vera gives it the ability to penetrate the skin dermis and carry its active ingredients deep into the skin.
7. Enhances the Immune System
Once upon a time, polymannans were a large part of our diet. Wheat, rice, and other grains supplied all our needs; however, due to the changes in farming and the way in which food is now processed, has caused this important element to virtually disappear from our diets. Polymannans stimulate and enhance your immune system. One way to increase the polymannans in our diets is to take a daily aloe vera supplement or a drink.
8. Essential Sugars
We’re not talking about the kind of sugar you dump in your coffee, we mean biological sugars. These types of sugars are essential to life itself. Every cell in your body is coated with eight important sugar communicators, so to speak. One of these very important sugars is called mannose. Mannose is a very complex compound, and it’s responsible for reducing the inflammation that can cause ulcers and reflux. As an antioxidant it protects the cells from pollution and loss of nutrients as well as helping the body’s immune system heal and remove viruses, infectious diseases, and many disorders of the immune system, just to name a few. Find out how we are ruining the immune system.
9. Rich in Minerals
Your body needs 17 minerals just to function every day. 13 of these 17 are found in aloe vera including iron, zinc, chromium, copper, potassium, sodium, calcium, and manganese, to name a few. Imagine getting almost every mineral you need from this one little plant!

10. Treatment for Alzheimer’s
The University of Miami’s School of Medicine found that daily doses of aloe vera reduced the symptoms of Alzheimer’s and increased scores on a cognitive test.
The scientists gave a supplement with aloe polymannose to subjects with Alzheimer’s for one year. These subjects were tested in three month intervals. A whopping 46 percent of those taking the aloe vera showed dramatic improvements in cognitive tests. Patients took 4 teaspoons a day of the supplement. It’s believed that neuro-inflammation is symptomatic in those with Alzheimer’s and, as we already know, aloe vera is a powerful anti-inflammatory.
When you consider all of aloe vera’s benefits, you come to the conclusion that you really cannot go wrong including it as a part of your healthy diet. In the end, it’s all about your health and wellness.

I had my mom take three APMC 500 capsules (opened and sprinkled on yogurt) twice a day. After one week she was walking instead of needing a wheelchair and playing the piano. She was sleeping through the night where as before she would try to get up and fall. She can now have a conversation where as before only mumbled. I wanted to share this product and hope others who have loved ones with Alzheimer’s might see the same results.
