Ebola Has Arrived in the US – 10 Ways to Prepare and Protect Yourself
1. Increase your stockpiles of food and water
One of the first things that happen to people after a medical quarantine is that food and water become scarce fairly quickly. Medical quarantines will restrict traffic in and out of the quarantine zone, which means you can’t leave to buy food and there will be no food supplies coming in. Even emergency deliveries are sometimes delayed as drivers refuse to enter quarantine zones. As soon as people find out their area has been quarantined, stores will be looted in a matter of hours. This means that the only food and water you might have for weeks in what you have stored in your home.
2. Expect disruptions of everything
This means power outages, water, banking services, trash pickup, even police and fire services can be disrupted as people are not allowed to work. Try to imagine what would happen if everyone stopped going to work in your home town? How will you survive if you had no grocery stores, no 911, no tap water, no electricity, and or no prescription drugs? Stock up as best you can. Consider buying flashlights, candles, batteries, solar chargers, even a generator if you can. Have extra prescription medications on hand, and some extra propane tanks for cooking. You might also want to consider storing some extra water for bathing and cleaning purposes.
3. Improve your immune system with herbs
There is no cure or treatment for Ebola. The only thing you have to fight off this virus is your own immune system. If you haven’t started already, begin eating foods and herbs that will improve your immune system such as zinc, vitamin C, vitamin D, ginger, garlic, green tea, seaweed, onions, yogurt, Echinacea, and olive leaf.
4. Prepare a bug out plan
If you see Ebola beginning to spread in your city (for example, Dallas) make a bug out plan to you can evacuate instead of being stuck in a forced quarantine.
The truth is medical quarantines should be called Live or Die zones because once they are established; you aren’t leaving until everyone is dead or have developed immunity. A smarter move would be to get out of highly populated areas and relocate to more rural areas before the quarantine is in place. There will be no warning because government doesn’t want people feeling the area so quarantines happen rather quickly. Make a plan for an alternative place to go, have some bags packed, and be prepared to move in a heartbeat should you need to.
5. Store more water
Imagine what would happen if your local water treatment facility shuts down? How will you wash dishes, wash clothes, take showers, and flush toilets? You want to save your water for drinking so you need another source for washing and toilet needs. Unless you have a swimming pool, you need to store more water than you think you need. An average family of 4 uses about 10,000 liters of water every 4 weeks. (About 2,500 gallons) Not many people who live in the city have storage facilities for that much water, but every gallon counts so buy containers such as rain barrels for extra water storage and do it quickly. Now that Ebola is on our soil, these things are going to sell out like hotcakes!
6. Plan on having no medical assistance
Don’t expect to have any medical help whatsoever during a pandemic. Doctors, nurses, and hospital staff will have already become infected or will refuse to enter the quarantine zone or will be overwhelmed with patients and become unwilling to take on more.
As happened in Liberia and Sierra Leone, hospitals are filled quickly and soon afterwards, patients are told to go home and deal with their illness as best they can. 911 is going to forward to a recording and there will be no ambulances on the streets. This would be a good time to go through your first aid kit, medicine chest, and consider your medical knowledge and skills. If you feel you are unprepared, buy some basic first aid and natural herbal healing books. If someone in your home depends on medication or is a diabetic who relies on insulin, stock up! Many pharmacies will allow you to buy a “vacation” stash of 30 days’ worth of medications for you to take with you. Get that stash now, rather than later, and buy extra diabetic supplies and insulin.
7. Remember that junk foods, toxic cleaners, and other items make you more vulnerable to infection
Your only defense against Ebola is your immune system. So besides improving your natural defense, stop doing it more damage by exposing it to toxic cleaning chemicals in your home and garage, eating junk foods with no nutritional value, and sitting around watching the boob tube and surfing Facebook instead of getting some exercise and plenty of sleep.
8. Make a plan for household defense
If you woke up tomorrow and found out that your neighborhood was under lock down for a minimum of 3 weeks, how would you protect yourself and your family from looters? From starving people who are looking for food and water? The government and police are not going to help you so you better have a plan.
Everyone will be all nicey-nice and friendly for about 72 hours. Remember, however, that most people only have about a 3 day supply of food and water in their homes. Hungry, thirsty people won’t give a damn that you two grew up together or that your kids used to have playdates. Politeness will go out the window. Hungry people who find out that you have food will do almost anything, including committing murder, to get food and water.
If you don’t have a protection plan in place, don’t wait!
9. Get some cash on hand
Should your area be hit with a medical quarantine, it won’t take long, perhaps hours, for banks and cash machines to be closed down or run out of money. Assuming you could still buy some needed items, how will you do so if ATM’s are out of order and credit and debit cards refused? Cash will still be accepted, so be smart and plan ahead. You don’t need to have thousands of dollars but a couple of hundred dollars just might save your life.
10. Consider moving away from highly populated areas permanently
Viral pandemics and other types of “super bug” bacterial infections are making the rounds of planet earth right now. Humans have caused such an imbalance within nature that you are most likely going to see these types of pandemics sweep across the globe for untold decades.
Highly populated cities become death traps during pandemics. Rural areas are always safer because fewer humans per square foot mean fewer contacts. Ebola is not going to be the last pandemic to hit the country. It’s a given that sooner or later, some virus is going to hit America hard. You would be wise to start taking steps today to move to a more rural area to protect yourself and your family from the next pandemic.
As far as protecting yourself from a pandemic, don’t expect any help from government or health officials. Their advice regarding Ebola is “wash your hands” and “wait for a vaccine.” You would be wise to take things into your own hands and take steps to protect yourself.
