8. Relaxation

Although matcha green tea does have caffeine, it has a calming effect on the body and many people consume this tea before their regular meditation sessions. The relaxing ingredient in this tea is called L-theanine, which is a calming agent that will lower stress levels and balance the mind and body.

9.  Improved Immune System Function

The high levels of antioxidants in this tea act as natural antibiotics, which supports the immune system. Matcha green tea is rich in vitamins A and C, potassium, iron, and calcium, all of which contribute to the body’s immune system.

10. Cancer Prevention

We hate to go on and on about the antioxidants in this tea, but with all the exciting things they have to offer, we can’t help ourselves. One of the most powerful antioxidants in this tea is called epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. This type of antioxidant is known for its incredible anti-cancer compounds. EGCG looks for free radicals and destroys them; in fact, matcha green tea has more than 100 times of these natural cancer fighters than any other type of tea on earth.

According to the NCI (National Cancer Institute), these antioxidants in matcha green tea are so powerful that consuming it regularly can lower your risk of developing cancer. EGCG does this by clinically proving that it can protect cells from DNA damage that is caused by reactive oxygen species. Matcha green tea polyphenols have been shown to inhibit the development of tumor cells and induce cancer cell destruction in studies done with animals. The catechins in this type of green tea also activate enzymes, such as quinone reductase, and glutathione S-transferase, that detoxify the body, and are also known for preventing the growth of certain types of tumors.

Think of matcha tea as a type of green tea on steroids. Because this type of tea is grown in the shade, it is substantially richer in chlorophyll and antioxidants than any other type of tea.

So, what are you waiting for? With something to offer everyone, why aren’t you drinking more matcha green tea?
