Everyone always wants to look their best, and this includes having a glowing complexion. The cosmetics industry is always discovering new ways to keep skin looking young and vibrant. A common problem that stands in the way of clear skin is breakouts. Here we suggest the most effective home treatments which will help you to get rid of blackheads – the most destructive of all types of acne.

What Exactly is a Blackhead?

A blackhead develops when the pores on your face get backed up with extra oil meant to keep your skin smooth and supple. Not only the oil, but dead skin cells clog the pores. Whiteheads also can appear on your complexion. The only difference between a whitehead and a blackhead is whether or not the pores are open when they get clogged. If your pore is open, it becomes a blackhead. Also, it is not dirt that turns it black, but the oxidation of the skin cells as it comes into contact with the air.

Why a Black Mask is Not Good for Your Skin.

There is a hair follicle located in every pore on your face. If you use a black peel-off mask to remove a blackhead, it will yank out that hair and damage the pore. Disturbing the hair follicle can cause the pore to become dilated, hurting the cells, and you could end up with hyper pigmentation.

However, there are plenty of simple ways out there to safely and easily get rid of blackheads from your skin. Keep reading!

1. An Egg White Mask.

This type of face mask is inexpensive and easy to use. All you need is a fresh egg, a small bowl, a clean towel, and some pieces of tissue paper. Break the egg and separate the white in the bowl. First, clean your face and wipe it dry. Then whisk the white slightly in the bowl and apply the mixture on your skin. Put a thin layer of tissue paper over the egg white and press lightly. Once it dries out, your skin will feel tight. Remove the tissue and wash your face well. Here is the video with another recipe for DIY egg mask for blackheads.

2. Honey and Cinnamon.

Mix together a teaspoon of cinnamon powder with a teaspoon of (organic) honey  until it creates a paste. Apply to your skin and place a strip of clean cotton over the blackhead. After five minutes remove the cotton and wash the area.

3. The Water Treatment.

All you need to do to keep blackheads away is to splash your face with fresh cold water two times each day. This will keep your skin clean and your pores clear. Dry your face with a clean towel and moisturize your skin.

4. Baking Soda.

Combine a small amount of baking soda with enough cold water to make a paste. Apply this baking soda mixture to the affected area in a circular motion. Let it sit for a few minutes, and then rinse and moisturize.

5. Toner.

If you have a favorite toner that you use on your skin on a regular basis try using that a few times each day. The toner will clean out the pores and shrink them back to size. We suggest to try one of the top 12 natural toners for oily skin problems.

6. Steaming.

This is actually good for your entire complexion. Get a pot filled halfway with boiling water. Put a towel on the table, and set the pot on it. Put another towel over your head as you lean over the pot and let the steam open up your pores and clean out your skin. Don’t stay over the pot if the water is too hot.

7. Lemon.

This is a very simple way to get rid of nasty blackheads with what you have at hand at home. Squeeze a fresh lemon onto a cotton ball and apply to the blackhead. When you are done, wait a minute or two, then rinse your face completely, and apply your regular moisturizer.

8. Oatmeal and yogurt.

This natural scrub you can make at home will help prevent future breakouts. Combine a couple of tablespoons of raw oatmeal with three tablespoons of plain yogurt. Spread it on your face, let it sit for a few minutes, and then rinse with cold water.

9. Olive oil and sugar.

As easy as that! Mix a teaspoon of sugar with a teaspoon of olive oil. Apply this mixture to the blackheads, and rub it in really lightly with your finger tips for about a minute. When done, wash your face with water and dry off the area by tapping your face with the towel.

10. Green tea.

Pour one mug of water in a saucepan. Boil the water, remove from the stove, and put two green tea bags into the pan. Let the tea steep for about a half an hour. Transfer the tea to a glass jar and chill in the refrigerator for an hour. After you wash your face and dry it, put some of the green tea on a cotton ball and dab all over your face. Let it stay on your face for around 15 minutes. Wash your face, dry, and apply a moisturizer to your skin.

11. Toothpaste.

A whitening toothpaste (not a gel) will help to remove the blackhead right away. Make sure your face is clean, then apply toothpaste right to the affected area. Rub it around good for a few minutes, then let it dry. Once it is dry rub the toothpaste in a circular motion until it is removed. Wash your face again and dry it with a clean towel. This is a good treatment to perform right before going to bed.

12. Toothpaste and Salt.

If you have a small area you want to treat you can add some salt to the toothpaste to create an exfoliation treatment that will work even faster.

13. Oatmeal and Rosewater.

Add about three tablespoons of rosewater to some raw oatmeal and make a paste. Apply it to the blackheads and leave it on the skin for about 30 minutes. Wash your race with warm water and towel dry.

14. Sweating it Out.

You can also sweat out everything that is clogging your pores. Wash your face first, get a good sweat going, and wash your face again. This will release much of the stuff that is creating the blackhead.
