Banana and Cinnamon Tea

Interestingly, the relaxing effects of bananas and cinnamon appear to be amplified when these two ingredients are combined. Bananas are probably not a fruit that come to mind when people think of fruit flavored teas. Most of the time, citrus fruits like oranges or lemons are used, and they certainly have their place, but as you’ll see, banana tea has an entirely different application.

This tea is very simple to prepare. Simply take a banana and cut off each end. Don’t worry about peeling it, because the peel actually contains a lot of the nutrients necessary to make the tea. Place the banana in a pot of water and bring to a boil. Let it boil for about 10 minutes, then sprinkle some cinnamon in, adjusting to taste.

Try this on its own first and see how you like the taste. If you need more flavor, add more cinnamon.

For those who like their tea to have a sweet flavor, some recipes call for adding a pinch of stevia. This natural sugar alternative is recommended because traditional cane sugar can cause your blood sugar levels to spike right before bed. The last thing you need when you’re trying to sleep is an energy boost. Alternatively, you can use raw honey,* which has a plethora of health benefits of its own.

For many people with insomnia, their first reaction is to take over-the-counter or prescription sleeping pills. But this should not be one’s first choice, as some of these pills can suppress R.E.M. sleep, leading to drowsiness the next day, while others are habit-forming and very easy to overdose on.
