Turmeric Mixed With One Common Thing Could Literally Save Lives
If you are a regular reader at NaturalOn, you know that turmeric has numerous health benefits. Now, a group of scientists has come to the conclusion that mixing turmeric with everyday black pepper could be one of the greatest sources of protection against breast cancer. Scientists from the University of Michigan have also found that this same mixture can even benefit those who are already suffering from breast cancer.
As we previously mentioned, turmeric is a very powerful herb; however, the body has a difficult time absorbing it. Since turmeric is a fat soluble herb, you can improve the absorption somewhat by consuming turmeric with a fatty meal or a glass of milk, but the best way to improve the absorption rate of turmeric is to consume a bit of black pepper with it. Black pepper improves the absorption rate by 2000 percent! Yes, you read that right! Not 20 percent, not 200 percent, but 2,000 percent!
In case you have not heard about all the benefits that turmeric has to offer, let’s take a look at just a few of the things scientists know it can do for us:
1. Super Powerful Depression Fighter
Some of the compounds in turmeric and black pepper, such a piperine and curcumin, are powerful anti-depressants. They increase both serotonin and dopamine in the brain while preventing the activity of enzymes (mono-amine oxidase) which has been linked to depression levels when this enzyme becomes too high.

2. Greatly Reduces Inflammation
Curcumin and piperine are the two active ingredients which have the ability to affect more than 700 different genes in the body. In combination, these ingredients can inhibit the activity of COX-2 and 5-LOX, the two enzymes that create inflammation and pain.
3. Supports Weight Loss
If you are looking to lose some weight, black pepper and turmeric can help you with those efforts. Black pepper is a thermogenic compound which speeds up your metabolism, helping you naturally burn more calories. The combination of turmeric and black pepper can lead to a natural feeling of fullness, making these herbs a natural appetite suppressant. Add turmeric and black pepper to just about any meal. You can also put them in vegetable juices and smoothies. Add half a teaspoon of turmeric and a quarter teaspoon of black pepper to your meals or juices each day.

4. A Strong Anti-Cancer Duo
There are numerous studies showing that turmeric can fight against several types of cancer. However, scientists also know that without black pepper, the turmeric consumed does not do much good since the body cannot absorb much of it. Actual studies involving turmeric and human cancer cells are still scarce, but studies that have been conducted recently in vitro have been impressive.
You should be aware that most store-bought curry powders actually contain very, very little turmeric, which means that they contain even less curcumin. In fact, their spicy flavor comes from chilies, rather than black peppercorns. So if you truly want to get all the benefits of turmeric, curcumin, and piperine, you should buy pure turmeric powder and mix it with black peppercorns.
In fact, if you would like to make your own curry powder that will give you the benefits we just talked about, try this recipe:
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of ground coriander
- 2 tablespoons of ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon of pure turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- ½ teaspoon of ground mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon of ground ginger
