Perhaps one of the most universal oils in the world is coconut oil. This super versatile oil can be used for cooking, baking, skin moisturizing, stopping acne, and, as if this were not enough, this oil can do simply amazing things for your hair!

You might be thinking, “OK, oil, hair, moisturize, I got it!” but the truth is that coconut oil’s properties do far more than simply moisturize the hair shaft!

What else can this amazing, all-natural oil do?

1. Kill Lice

If you have school-age children, chances are pretty good they will come home with lice at least once in their lives. Most over-the-counter treatments are filled with toxic chemicals that your skin absorbs and puts directly into the blood! In addition to the horrible stench and the burning of the scalp, these treatments often ruin the hair so badly that many people simply cut it all off! You can avoid all of these things, however, and still kill lice by using coconut oil. Coat the hair completely with gobs of coconut oil and cover with a towel. The lice will die as they quickly suffocate. Use a lice comb and remove every last one of these lice, then wash. Repeat every seven days until you are certain all the lice eggs have hatched and been killed.

2. Stops Dandruff

Coconut oil is a natural anti-fungal and antibacterial oil that will kill the fungus that causes dandruff. Unlike those chemical-filled shampoos, using coconut oil as a conditioner after shampooing will leave the scalp soft, moisturized, and naturally dandruff free.

3. Controls Gray Hair

Like printer ink, as we age, our bodies produce less and less color for new hair that grows. This results in graying hair. You can slow down the graying process by using coconut oil in your daily shower and hair care routine by protecting the scalp and nourishing the hair follicle.

4. Prevents Hair Loss

The rich, healthy fats in coconut oil nourish the hair shaft and scalp, as well as fighting inflammation and bacterial infections of the skin. This can result in fewer lost hairs.

5. Smooth, Shiny, Healthier Looking Hair

Even if you don’t have any of the above problems, but you want truly luscious locks that people will envy (and who doesn’t want that?!) then you want coconut oil! Many people find frizzy hair a real problem in the cold winter months when heaters dry out the hair. Coconut oil will seal in your hair’s natural moisture and add healthy fats so that it looks healthy and smooth, not frizzy and fried. Use it once a week as a deep conditioning treatment, or add some to the ends for shiny, silky hair you can be proud of!

OKayeee— why don’t you mention when to apply the Coconut oil on your hair. You gave instructions how to use with lice but not when to apply on your hair by using coconut oil in your daily shower and hair care routine by protecting the scalp and nourishing the hair follicle. I take showers every morning before heading off to work.. Do you leave the oil on your hair all day??

I’d use it as a rinse…like when you first shampoo…then rinse, and apply a 2nd. layer…use coconut oil instead. Trouble is coconut oil is usually in flakes…lol…NO , NOT DANDRUFF FLAKES….lol That’s the oil one uses for sauteing, etc. IF you find a liquid coconut oil to use as a rinse…I’d jut leave it on all day…but then if you start dropping coconuts…you’ll probably go COO COO….lol
      Hey…I just can’t hep mahseff….Life is FUN when you’re 70…ARGH$%^&*(%^&*%^&*(
      I just thought of a better result…COCO locks…but you might DRED THEM…OH MAN…OK I’ll stop now…lol
