Antibiotics are a miracle of modern medicine. There is no denying that, in certain instances, they have saved lives.

However, overuse of antibiotics has also caused us many problems and actually damaged the health of many humans.

Developing a resistance to antibiotics is becoming quite common and has long term effects. What will we do when we can no longer fight off diseases and infections like pneumonia or staph infections? This worrisome overuse of antibiotics has even led to children and babies with antibiotic resistant strains of tuberculosis!

The overuse of antibiotics is creating superbugs that are evolving and growing faster than we can find the means to fight them.

Avoid antibiotic use whenever possible and look towards the natural herbs, foods, and spices that people have used for thousands of years as means of fighting infections naturally.

We have compiled a list of the top 12 natural antibiotics that you can use to prevent and kill infections without a prescription, and without fear of adding to the superbug problem.

1. Turmeric

Both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine use turmeric for its natural antibiotic compounds, which destroy pathogens while encouraging the body’s natural defenses. Turmeric can also help to prevent infections in external wounds. In 2009, the journal Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy published a study which showed the active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, was effective in fighting the helicobacter pylori bacteria, which is believed to be the root cause of peptic ulcers, which if left untreated can lead to stomach cancer.

You can take 400 to 600 mgs of turmeric supplements twice each day, or make your own double whammy antibiotic food by mixing one tablespoon of turmeric powder with about 6 tablespoons of raw, organic honey. Store this mixture in an airtight jar and consume ½ teaspoon of this powerful mixture each day to prevent and stop infections naturally.

2. Garlic

Garlic is a really special herb because although it contains antibiotic compounds, unlike prescription antibiotics, garlic does not kill good bacteria! Garlic works best when fresh cloves are slightly crushed and allowed to sit for about 5 minutes before consuming. Garlic is a powerful antifungal and antiviral as well so consuming one or two cloves each day can prevent infections, including fungal infections, as well as help to prevent cold and flu viruses. One study, which as published in 1999 in the journal Microbes and Infection, discovered that the sulfur compounds in garlic, called alllicin, work in the body as natural antibiotics.
