More and more people these days are turning away from toxic over the counter or prescription medications and seeking cures or relief from natural home remedies.

Are you sick of running to the drugstore to buy the latest medication, only to find that it didn’t work? Or worse, you ended up with some terrible side effect that made you wish you had never taken it at all? Or when it didn’t work, did you try a different, and more likely expensive, treatment or medication only to find that it didn’t work either?

You aren’t alone. This is the reason why so many people are returning to natural home remedies. Although modern medicine scoffs and laughs at some home remedies, you will very surprised to find out just how effective these things actually are! Perhaps that’s why so many of them have been used hundreds of years; because they work!

Some of these might sound a bit bizarre, but give them a try and you will discover what thousands of other people are finding out that old fashioned, natural, home-made remedies are usually the best!

1. Stop Ear Infections

Clean the wax out of your ears easily by lying on your side and filling your ear with hydrogen peroxide. Generally, one capful is enough to fill your ear. Let it sit and bubble in your ear for about 5 or 10 minutes. You are going to hear a whole lot of popping and fizzing going on. This is just the peroxide softening the wax and killing any bacteria that is your ear. Put a tissue over your ear and allow it to drain. You can also just let your ear drain into the sink or a trash can but the tissue is less messy. You can now easily remove excess earwax with a Q-tip. Not only does this feel terrific, but you can probably stop ear infections, even a cold virus, dead in its tracks by using this trick at the very first sign of a cold or ear pain.

2. Stop Foot Odor

Has someone in your family told you that your smelly feet are enough to drive someone to drink? Perhaps it’s time to take them up on that! OK, so you aren’t literally going to hit up your local bar, but go and buy a bottle of pure vodka (not the flavored kind). Dampen a wash rag with the vodka and rub it over your feet. The high alcohol content kills the bacteria that causes those stinky toes.

3. Heal a Cut

Did you give yourself a nasty cut trying to separate that bagel this morning? (Why don’t they cut those things all the way through anyway?) Sometimes we end up with a cut that needs something more than a bandage but isn’t really bad enough to waste half a day going to the doctor for 2 lousy stitches. Super glue and chapstick to the rescue! No, we are not kidding. Wash and air dry the cut, then use the superglue to stick the cut back together and then rub the top with a bit of (clean) chapstick to help seal the top of the cut.

4. Eat This for a Cold

Did your mother or grandmother feed you chicken soup when you were sick with a cold? That is much more than just a feel good remedy. Chicken soup is a legit remedy. It contains proven anti-inflammatory compounds that help move the mucus out of your body and when the mucus starts leaving your body, it takes the virus with it.

5. Remove Warts and Skin Tags

If you think removing ugly warts or those annoying skin tags means an expensive trip to the dermatologist, think again! You don’t have to buy those pricey, smelly over the counter remedies either; all you need is a little bit of duct tape. Not masking tape or electrical tape, for some reason, it needs to be duct tape. No one knows why this works, but it really does! Simply cover the wart or skin tag with a small piece of duct tape. Leave it on until the tape falls off. (Yes, shower with it.) Once it falls off, if the wart is still there, repeat the process. Most people say that the wart or skin tag will fall off with the tape by the 3rd application, which is about 2 or 3 weeks.

6. Heal Canker Sores

If you have ever had one then you know that canker sores are really painful. Stop the pain and make it heal more quickly by mixing equal parts of milk of magnesia with either Benadryl or Benylin. Use a Q-tip to apply one or two drops directly to the sore twice or three times per day. Don’t use too much and avoid swallowing it as it can numb your throat as well and you might find drinking becomes a comic endeavor!

7. Neutralize Stings

Spring and summer fun sometimes means bee and/or wasp stings, which are no fun at all. Be prepared this time around and pack some baking soda and white vinegar. Bee stings are acidic in nature, so if you get stung, be sure you get the stinger out, then make a paste with baking soda and a small amount of water. Apply about a teaspoon to the site of the sting and hold a cloth or bandage over the paste to keep it in place. The sting should start feeling better in about 15 to 30 minutes.

For wasps, use vinegar. Wet a clean cloth and apply it to the sting. As with the bee sting, you should get relief within 30 minutes or less. Read more about uses of vinegar.

8. Stop Heartburn Instantly

Did that new chili recipe leave you with a severe case of heartburn? For instant relief, simply mix a teaspoon or two of baking soda in a glass of water. Drink it down and you will literally feel as if you are pouring water on a fire.

Athlete’s foot itches and burns like crazy and toenail fungus is super ugly. Get rid of both or either of these by simply soaking your feet in old fashioned mouthwash (such as Listerine) once or twice per week. This is a really old remedy that works remarkably well.

10. Stop Yeast Infections and Urinary Tract Infections

This is some great preventative advice. Drinking one glass of pure cranberry juice will stop most urinary tract infections before they start. You can also help keep vaginal yeast infections from ever taking hold by eating one container of yogurt each day. Be sure the yogurt has active cultures and unsweetened is always your best choice.

11. Soothe and Heal a Sunburn

It’s best to not get burned at all, but hey, accidents happen. When they do, break out the black tea bags. Make a pot of tea using at least 3 tea bags. You want the water to be almost black in color. Black tea contains tannins that speed recovery time, soothe the skin, and reduce peeling. This might even help that sunburn turn into a suntan. When the tea is almost black, allow it to cool completely, then use a wet a washrag with the tea and apply it to the burned area once or twice a day for the next two or three days.

12. Stop the Pain and Itching of Eczema

Although the severity of eczema can vary greatly from person to person, everyone wants to stop the itching, swelling and pain. A study published in The Europe PubMed Central showed that a topical application of evening primrose oil significantly improved the severity and symptoms of eczema. Apply 3 or 4 drops of evening primrose oil directly to the affected parts of your skin. Repeat as needed for relief. Find out more benefits of primrose oil.

13. Stop Herpes

Unfortunately, herpes is one of the most successful viruses ever. It’s estimated that as much as 40 percent of the world’s population has been infected with this incurable virus. You don’t need those synthetic meds or expensive topical ointments to stop it, all you need is some green tea. Drink a minimum of 2 cups of freshly brewed green tea each day. Green tea stops the herpes virus from replicating and reduces the severity of outbreaks. If an outbreak should occur, mix 10 drops of pure green tea extract in 2 teaspoons of coconut oil and apply directly to the lesions daily until they disappear.

14. Stop Headaches

There is a very old fashioned pain remedy that has been used since the time of Hippocrates as an anti-inflammatory agent and natural pain reliever. Willow Bark has been so successful at stopping headaches that it was the primary element in the development of aspirin. When you start to feel the beginnings of a headache, make some willow bark tea. Or, for faster relief, take between 60 and 240 mgs of a salicin supplement.

15. Stop a Toothache

Did you ever smoke one of those clove flavored cigarettes or cigars? You might have noticed that your tongue, lips, and mouth became numb. Clove oil is still used in modern dentistry as a means of pain control. If you should develop a toothache and can’t get to a dentist right away, try applying one or two drops of clove oil directly on the tooth. This will work until you can get to your dentist. Try not to swallow the oil, however, as it can irritate your stomach.
