10 Top Tips for Using Lemons instead of Beauty Products
Everyone knows lemonade is a super refreshing drink, but did you know that lemons have been used for literally hundreds of years to improve the skin, hair, and other beauty uses? Lemons can freshen, whiten, and brighten almost anything you can think of. So take those lemons out of the frig and put them on your dresser, and we will dish out the top 10 ways you can use lemons to make yourself more georgeous than ever!
1. Add Highlights to Hair
You probably already heard about this one, but it really works! Apply some lemon juice directly to your hair and then do a little sunbathing, or just use your hairdryer.
2. Fade those Dark Spots
Another old-fashioned remedy for freckeles and age spots that works.
Use a cotton ball to rub lemon juice over those offending spots once a day to lighten them.
It will take several weeks to see the difference, but it absolutely works.
3. Nail Whitener
If using lots of dark colored nail polish has left your fingernails or toenails yellow, put some lemon juice into a bowl and soak your nails for 10 minutes to make them beautifully white again.
4. Remove Hair Residue
Got product buildup? Rinsing your hair with lemon juice is a great all natural way to remove it.
Mix one part water with one part lemon juice and pour over hair. Let it sit for one minute, then rinse.
5. Dandruff Remover
While it won’t prevent dandruff, it does a great job at removing the flakes.
Massage the juice of one lemon into your scalp, let sit for 10 minutes, shampoo as usual.
Lemons are safe for you. Have you wondered if personal care products are harmful for you?
6. Face Mask
Want to firm and tighten the skin on your face?
Try this great revitalizing mask. Mix 2 tablespoons of plain yogurt with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
Apply this mixture to your face, avoiding your eyes.
Leave on for a minimum of 20 minutes and a maximum of 1 hour. Rinse with warm water, then apply your moistureizer.
7. Super Hydrating Hair Conditioner
Mix ¾ of a cup of olive oil, ½ cup of raw honey, with 3 tablespoons of lemon juice.
After shampooing your hair, saturate your hair with this mixture, then put your hair in heat cap or plastic wrap and leave on for at least 30 minutes.
Rinse well with warm water.
8. Natural Astrigent
Lemon juice is the perfect natural astringent and works great at treating blemishes as well as preventing future break outs.
Mix one part lemon juice with three parts water.
After cleansing your skin, use a cotton ball and rub this mixture over your face, avoiding your eye area.
9. Clean and Soften Hands
Lemon juice naturally removes stains and odors, as well as softens and brightens the skin.
Rub lemon juice over your hands or soak them in bowl of one part lemon juice, one part water for 10 minutes, then wash as usual.
10. Super Exfoliator
Mix one part lemon juice with two parts salt ( or sugar if you prefer) and two parts olive oil to make the ultimate, all natural body scrub.
Some people have sensitive skin, so you should always do a test spot on the inside of your wrist to be sure you don’t have any reactions or develop an irritation to any of the ingredients.
