Your mouth is watering just reading this headline, isn’t it? You’re thinking we are going to talk about those hot, sticky, cinnamon buns, aren’t you? Well, we hate to break your heart but, NO WAY!
Although cinnamon and honey are both commonly found in most kitchen cupboards but you probably had no idea just how healthful the combination of these two items could be. Although all the products claimed to be honey, this study showed that 76 percent of the products that had been purchased at major supermarkets, and 77 percent of samples that came from the big box chain stores, contained no pollen whatsoever. Honey samples that were taken from drug stores and fast food restaurants showed that 100 percent contained no pollen at all. This means that almost all products tested really weren’t honey, because they contained no pollen, but were some other type of sweetener.
When looking for honey, read the labels carefully. Only buy products that have “honey” as the only ingredient. If possible, raw honey is better still and can generally be found in most health food stores and even at Farmer’s Market’s.

The active ingredient in cinnamon is called coumarin, but at high doses, it’s been linked to possible kidney and liver damage. Although almost all cinnamon you buy at your local grocery store chain will be Ceylon cinnamon. Avoid buying your cinnamon at 99cent stores and the like as it can be Chinese cinnamon, which looks and tastes the same, but has considerably higher levels of coumarin.
