4. Onion/Rum

Although this sounds like a bizarre new cocktail, it’s actually a great way to stimulate new growth. Finely chop one medium onion and use rum to cover the chopped pieces. Allow to soak overnight or all day. The following day, strain the mixture using a sieve to remove the onions. Pour the rum/onion mixture over your dry hair and allow to sit for 30 minutes before washing or use it as a final rinse after you shampoo. Your hair might smell a bit like Captain Morgan, but it should fade within an hour or two after it dries.

5. Onion Shampoo

OK, if you really just can’t deal with the smell of onions, there is one more method that might take longer, but should work for you.

Finely chop one onion and put it in a bottle of your favorite shampoo. Allow this mixture to sit for about 2 or 3 weeks. Give it a good shake once or twice per day. After 2 or 3 weeks, strain out the onion, then use this shampoo as you normally would. Try to let the shampoo sit on your head for 5 or 10 minutes before rinsing. This will give you a lower onion “punch” so it might take longer for you to see results, but it’s definitely the least smelly of these recipes.
